In Dance of Thieves they are both so busy keeping secrets from each other that it’s hard to know when and if we can trust either of them. It’s a whirlwind of information but so well written that you crave more! ![]() ![]() Plus, the dual POVs give us the chance to find out what’s going on during the weeks that Kazi and Jase are separated, not even sure if the other is still alive. I love the surprises that come from this storytelling style, especially in the Kazi and Jase flashbacks. There are so many moments where this story could have become convoluted or plot lines dropped, but Pearson excels at weaving this tale. We‘re given flashbacks to conversations between Kazi and Jase that slowly show us what their weeks together were like, dual POVs to keep us updated in the present, as well as historical moments from the first Ballinger family. Pearson has done such an amazing job crafting this story. ![]() ![]() 'If you only read one non-fiction book this year, make it this one' Metro Books of the Year a book to be read everywhere' John Berger Raking in billions out of the tsunami, plundering Russia, exploiting Iraq - this is the chilling tale of how a few are making a killing while more are getting killed. Is this perception of a “downtrodden” female scientist accurate? Franklin may well have been treated unfavorably by some of her peers, but she did not let this interfere with her research – a quality that has made her an inspiration to male and female scientists alike. ![]() “Sympathy and feminism have combined to give us her familiar image as a downtrodden woman scientist, brilliant but neglected, a heroine to inspire a new generation of scientific girls,” Franklin’s sister Jenifer Glynn wrote in 2012. Since her death, Franklin’s contribution to the discovery of the double helix has gained widespread recognition. However, it was researchers James Watson, Francis Crick, and Maurice Wilkins who were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1962 – 4 years after Franklin’s death – for uncovering the structure of DNA, having used Franklin’s work to help them reach their findings. This included “ photo 51” – the famous X-ray image of a crystallized DNA fiber that provided vital clues to the helical structure of DNA. Her most famous work is that which aided the discovery of the double helix. Though her life was short-lived, her contributions to science were not. Cassandra discovers that even in Tanusha, the powerful entities of this bloody conflict have wound their tentacles. But the war between the League and the Federation was ideological as much as political, with much of that ideological dispute regarding the very existence of artificial sentience and the rules that govern its creation. Her chosen world is Callay, and its enormous, decadent capital metropolis of Tanusha, where the concerns of the war are literally and figuratively so many light years away. She deserts the League and heads incognito into the space of her former enemy, the Federation, in search of a new life. But with her intellect come questions, and a moral awakening. Cassandra is an experimental design - more intelligent, more creative, and far more dangerous than any that have preceded her. Crossover is the first novel in a series which follows the adventures of Cassandra Kresnov, an artificial person, or android, created by the League, one side of an interstellar war against the more powerful, conservative Federation. ![]() |
